Who is Dr. Tony Evans?
Dr. Tony Evans is the founder and senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, a church he started in 1976 with just ten people. He was the first African American to earn a doctorate in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, marking a significant milestone in his career. Beyond his local church, he has become a globally recognized author, speaker, and radio host.
Dr. Evans is known for his ability to simplify complex theological concepts into practical, everyday advice. His teaching style emphasizes the “Kingdom Agenda,” which suggests that God’s word should influence every aspect of an individual’s life. This philosophy serves as the foundation for all the programs and materials produced by his ministry.
The Urban Alternative (TUA)
The Urban Alternative is the national ministry founded by Dr. Tony Evans in 1981. It serves as the primary engine for distributing his teachings through various media platforms. The goal of TUA is to bring about spiritual renewal by teaching people how to live according to biblical standards.
The ministry reaches millions of people worldwide through radio broadcasts, digital content, and printed materials. It operates as a non-profit organization, relying on donations and resource sales to fund its extensive outreach efforts. TUA is designed to bridge the gap between the church and the community, offering solutions to modern social and personal challenges.

The Kingdom Agenda Philosophy
At the heart of Tony Evans Ministry is the “Kingdom Agenda.” This is the belief that God has a comprehensive plan for every area of life. The ministry breaks this down into four distinct pillars that help individuals organize their priorities.
1. The Individual
This pillar focuses on personal spiritual growth and character development. The ministry provides tools for individuals to strengthen their relationship with God through prayer, fasting, and scripture reading. The goal is for each person to become a self-governing individual under the authority of God.
2. The Family
The ministry places a high value on the health of the family unit. Resources like “Kingdom Man” and “Kingdom Woman” are designed to help husbands, wives, and parents understand their biblical roles. There are also specific materials for raising children and maintaining a strong, faith-based marriage.
3. The Church
Dr. Evans teaches that the church should be a central hub for the community. The ministry provides resources for pastors and church leaders to help them build healthy, functioning congregations. This includes training on discipleship, worship, and church administration.
4. The Community
The final pillar focuses on social impact and community service. The ministry encourages believers to be active in their local neighborhoods, addressing issues like poverty, education, and justice. One of their major initiatives is the National Church Adopt-a-School Initiative, which pairs local churches with public schools to provide support and mentoring.
