Malayala Manorama is one of the most influential and widely read media houses in India, specifically serving the Malayalam-speaking population. Based in Kottayam, Kerala, it has grown from a traditional newspaper into a massive multimedia conglomerate. Today, it provides news through print, digital platforms, television, and radio.
For many people in Kerala and the global Malayali diaspora, Malayala Manorama is the primary source for daily information. Whether you are looking for local neighborhood updates or international breaking news, this organization offers various ways to stay informed. This guide will help you navigate their different services and find the news you need quickly.
The History and Legacy of Malayala Manorama
Malayala Manorama was first published as a weekly newspaper in 1890. It was founded by Kandathil Varghese Mappillai and has played a significant role in the social and political landscape of Kerala for over a century. Over time, it evolved into a daily publication and expanded its reach across the globe.
The publication is known for its high editorial standards and its ability to connect with readers at a grassroots level. It currently holds the position of being one of the largest circulating newspapers in India. Its long history makes it a trusted name for generations of families who rely on its accuracy and depth.

Navigating the Manorama Online Website
When you land on the homepage, you will see the top headlines prominently displayed. For those who prefer reading in English, there is usually a toggle or a specific link to the English version of the site. This is particularly helpful for non-Malayalam speakers or the younger generation living abroad.
The website also features a robust search bar. If you are looking for a specific past event or a particular person, typing keywords into this search bar will provide a list of archived articles. This makes it a valuable resource for research and fact-checking.
Manorama News Television Channel
For those who prefer visual media, Manorama News is a 24-hour Malayalam news channel. Launched in 2006, it quickly became one of the most-watched news channels in the state. It is known for its professional presentation and balanced reporting.
The channel features a variety of programming beyond standard news bulletins. Some of the popular segments include:
- Counter Point: A nightly debate show that discusses the biggest political and social issues of the day.
- Nattuvartha: A dedicated segment focusing on news from local villages and towns.
- Speed News: A fast-paced summary of the day’s top stories for viewers in a hurry.
You can watch Manorama News on most cable and satellite networks. Additionally, the channel often livestreams its broadcast on its official YouTube channel and website, allowing viewers to watch live from anywhere in the world.
The Malayala Manorama Mobile App
To stay updated while on the go, the Malayala Manorama mobile app is a highly recommended tool. It is available for both Android and iOS devices. The app provides a streamlined experience that is optimized for mobile screens.
One of the best features of the app is the notification system. You can opt-in to receive push notifications for breaking news. This ensures that you are the first to know when a significant event occurs, even if you aren’t actively browsing the news.
The app also allows for offline reading. You can save articles to read later when you may not have an active internet connection. This is a great feature for commuters or people traveling in areas with poor cellular reception.
The Digital E-Paper Experience
Many readers still enjoy the layout and feel of a traditional newspaper but prefer the convenience of a digital format. The Malayala Manorama E-paper provides exactly this. It is a digital replica of the printed daily newspaper.
With an E-paper subscription, you can flip through pages just like a physical paper. You can also zoom in on specific articles and even download pages for future reference. This service is especially popular among Malayalis living outside of Kerala who want to maintain the tradition of reading their local paper every morning.
The E-paper usually requires a subscription fee. However, it often offers different editions based on geographical locations, such as the Gulf edition or specific district editions within Kerala.
Special Interest Supplements and Magazines
Malayala Manorama is not just about daily news; it also produces several specialized publications. These supplements cater to specific interests and age groups, providing in-depth knowledge and entertainment.
- The Week: A popular English-language weekly news magazine with a national reach.
- Vanitha: One of the most successful women’s magazines in India.
- Balarama: A beloved children’s magazine that has been a staple for Kerala’s youth for decades.
- Thozhilveedhi: A dedicated publication for job seekers, providing alerts on government and private sector vacancies.
These publications are available in print and often have their own digital presence. They provide a more relaxed reading experience compared to the fast-paced nature of daily news.
Why Malayala Manorama is a Trusted Source
In an era of “fake news” and misinformation, finding a reliable news source is essential. Malayala Manorama has maintained its reputation by adhering to strict journalistic ethics. They employ a large network of correspondents and reporters who are often on the ground as events unfold.
